Perfect Hems and Satin Stitches

The first week of The Gentlemen's Sewing Club we will be looking at perfect hems and satin stitching.

ok chaps, hemming is a tough game, but with a little guidance and a lot of practice, anyone can do it. Think how much time and money you've spent on taking trousers to alterations shops for them to take up a inch or so, wouldn't it be nice to do that yourself, for free. Wearing a pair of trousers that fit perfectly, knowing you have done it yourself, is a very satisfying feeling.

The second skill we're going to have a go at is the satin stitch, a hand embroidered decorative that is simple and effective. We'll show you how to do the stitch perfectly and how it can be used in fashion and interiors.

We will provide materials to practice on, then you can go home and try it yourself

Perfect hems and satin stitches will be on the 4th of July from 6.30pm - 8.30pm at The Flying Duck Club - Glasgow. Places are £10 per head and this includes a couple of drinks plus all the basic materials to get you started.

Welcome Gentlemen, to The Gentlemen's Sewing Club!!

We're gentlemen and we enjoy sewing.

Men's sewing has came under fire recently, it's a lost art, and somehow there is a negative stigma around men who sew. We're changing that! How many of your fathers, grandfathers or great uncles knew how to sew way back when? Tailors, soldiers, sailors, all men who sew, not just for fashion or aesthetics but for necessity and survival.

We want to teach the modern man sewing skills. We think all men should be able to sew on buttons and hem trousers, and maybe bring back a revival in decorative embroidery while we're at it.

We are running weekly sewing classes for like minded people. The Flying Duck Club in Glasgow, provides a relaxed and comfortable environment where we can teach and share sewing skills whilst having a couple of beers or a cup of tea.

Our classes are different every week, mixing decorative embroidery with every day skills, with a guest speaker every third week. Classes run for 2 hours and are £10 per head, this includes tea, coffee or beers and all the basic materials you'll need to get started.  Spaces are limited to 10 people per week and we work on a first come first serve basis.

YOU CAN ONLY SIGN UP THROUGH THIS BLOG, BY PAYING THROUGH THE GOOGLE CHECKOUT BUTTON ON THE TOP RIGHT.

Week 1 starts Wednesday 4th July 6.30pm The Flying Duck Club, Glasgow. And the theme of the night will be Perfect Hems
